Who can run in the Student Union Election?
Anyone who is a student at Malmö University, belongs to a faculty that we represent (KS, TS, HS, and LS), and is a member of the Malmö Student Union can run in the Student Union Election.
What does it mean to be a candidate for the Union Council?
You are running for a position on the Union Council (FUM). FUM is the Student Union’s highest decision-making body and is responsible for overall decisions and activities.
What does a Council Member do?
Being a Council Member means that you become an ambassador for the Student Union Malmö. You ensure that what we do is visible among students at Malmö University. You also participate in our Council meetings, which are held three to four times per semester, and make all decisions for the entire year.
How many members are there on the Student Union Board?
The student union board consists of nine members. Two are on the presidium and seven are members, four of whom have faculty responsibilities. They meet approximately every other week and ensure that the council’s decisions are implemented.
How do I apply to the Student Union Board?
You do this by first being a candidate for the Student Union Council. Once you have been elected to the Council, you can apply for a position on the Student Union Board either as part of the presidium (president or vice president), as a member with faculty responsibility, or as a general member.
Do I need to take a break from my studies to be President or Vice President?
Yes, to be President or Vice President of the student union, you need to take a break from your studies because it’s a full-time assignment.
Do I need to take a break from my studies to be a member with faculty responsibilities?
No, you don’t have to. These members do their studies on the side, but they get paid for attending certain specific meetings.
What do the other board members do?
They are responsible for supporting the presidium and committees. They are assigned specific areas of responsibility by the board. This responsibility involves providing support for social activities, recruiting student representatives, and organizing the “Get Engaged” project.
